The Cape Charles residential areas were quiet places with homes on tree lined streets. The more affluent citizenry built large Victorian houses where they could raise their children away from the hustle and bustle of the daily commerce. A stroll down the sidewalk through the neighborhood on a sunny day was a welcome break from the daily grind.
