Steamships were one of the early primary methods of transporting goods and people. The Eastern Shore was surrounded by water on three sides. A fleet of them moved up, down and across the Chesapeake Bay. The Pennsylvania was one and it was capable of carrying a large load of maritime commerce. It is shown here as it came into one of the local harbors.
